CARE - Defending dignity, fighting poverty.
CARE is an international humanitarian aid organisation fighting global poverty, with a special focus on empowering women and girls to bring lasting change in their communities. We are non-religious and non-political, working together with communities to provide emergency relief and address the underlying causes of poverty. Last year, our work directly benefited more than 65 million people in 70 of the world’s poorest countries. Women are adversely affected by poverty. Of the one billion people living in poverty, 60 per cent are women. Of the seventy-two million children who don’t attend primary school, 57 per cent are girls.
CARE recognises that improving women’s lives can be a critical first step towards enduring social change. We know from experience that when you help an individual woman, her entire community benefits. When a woman is equipped with the proper resources, helping her become an active participant in her community, she can earn more, live longer, access education and make decisions that can guide her, and her community, towards a better future.
Our mission is to prevent cruelty to animals by actively promoting their care and protection. RSPCA NSW has Australia's biggest squad of law enforcement officers dedicated to policing offences against animals. There are 30 inspectors in NSW - 15 in the Sydney metropolitan area and 15 located in regional areas around the state.
RSPCA NSW has 11 Shelters (4 with Veterinary Hospitals) that provide comfort, accommodation and the best possible care to surrendered, neglected, unwanted, sick or injured animals. The RSPCA Yagoona Shelter in Sydney is the largest animal shelter in the southern hemisphere, caring for 900 dogs and 200 cats. We are also home to a variety of farm animals, including sheep, cattle, goats, horses, pigs, rabbits, chicken and ducks.
Save the Children is the world’s largest independent child rights development organisation, making a difference to children’s lives in more than 100 countries. From emergency relief to long-term development, Save the Children secures a child’s right to health, education and protection. Save the Children Australia manages and implements programs in Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. We also support development programs through our Alliance partners in selected countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Save the Children never shies away from the difficult, dangerous or controversial issues - whether it's providing a safe haven for girls born into brothels in Bangladesh, implementing HIV prevention programs or addressing instances of child exploitation in partnership with local communities. Save the Children also provides relief to hundreds of thousands of children and their families affected by natural disasters and other emergencies around the world and were among the first on the ground when disaster struck, including the Myanmar cyclone, Gaza conflict and the China earthquake. We are often in regions long before crises emerge, and remain there long-term to ensure children and their families recover and rebuild their lives.
The vision of The Fred Hollows Foundation is for a world where no one is needlessly blind and where Indigenous Australians enjoy the same health and life expectancy as other Australians.
Our organization is inspired by Professor Fred Hollows (1929‐1993). Fred was an eye doctor, a skilled surgeon or international renown and a social justice activist who championed the right of all people to high quality and affordable eye care and to good health.
Who We Are
We are an agent for development in Australia and internationally. We focus on blindness prevention and Australian Indigenous health. We are independent, nonprofit, politically unaligned and secular.
